With a slew of buzzing, jangled-out tracks available on their Soundcloud and a music video that was recently featured by sister blog The Bay Bridged, fresh-faced newcomers The Tambo Rays are poised to become summer staples on the San Francisco bar crawl. We talk to singer/lyricist Brian DaMert about man stamps and Ellen DeGeneres.

See Gayngs, The Vaccines, Cults, Dirty Beaches at Clift Hotel this summer for the price of an e-mail

The Clift Sessions are an annual tradition in San Francisco, where the hotel and LA-based IAMSOUND Records — the label behind Salem, MEN, and Suckers — unite in indie matrimony to bring you a “unique live music experience” at the Velvet + Redwood Rooms on Geary street.

  • June 27: Mark Gardener (from Ride), in conjunction with the screening of Upside Down (documentary about Creation Records – director Danny O’Connor will be there as well)

First of all, thank you to all from reddit that joined us today from the San Francisco subreddit. We easily surpassed our one-day visit record. Hopefully many of you will stick around for future posts. Feel free to add us to your RSS reader of choice.

Secondly, and because I received some tips today due to point number (1), I added some new links to the side bar. We want to encourage people to submit songs/tracks/events for bands that we may not have heard. Although we are focused primarily on garage-influenced music, I will listen to everything that is sent.

Thirdly, and perhaps most excitingly, we are partnering with Out of Focus TV, a local video blog that specializes in recording shows live in high quality audio and HD video. The guys at Out of Focus currently post their videos to their awesome Youtube channel, including the clip posted below from the Ty Segall/Strange Boys show at The Verdi Club back in March. They too have a garage-music focus, so we’d recommend readers who enjoy our content to check them out. We will be featuring more of their work when we begin posting show reviews next week.

//City Limits, a new label started by local bloggers Ears of the Beholder and See the Leaves, are releasing the first installment of a series designed to capsulize the sounds of a city featuring only artists from that given locale. Their first “time capsule” is the City by the Bay, with a track-list that includes The Sandwitches, Young Prisms, and Magic Bullets. Recap for the Week of May 16th: Ty Segall mellows out, S-S turns 10, Ganglians get weird(er)

Several big announcements/reminders for the next few days….

* Saturday: YesYesYes Magazine is having a fundraiser at AfterLife boutique on Valencia (cross street 21st), from 8pm-10pm. Magic Bullets side-project Terry Malts and Wet Illustrated are both scheduled to play, so get there early and buy enough booze to keep the magazine afloat. They also have a Kickstarter set up to help them reach their goal. [Judgement Day flyer].

* This Weekend: S-S Records 10 Year Anniversary shows Friday and Saturday (Bottom of the Hill), and Sunday (Hemlock Tavern). Read a little about the history of the influential Sacramento-based label here, courtesy of Michelle Broder Van Dyke, who also blogs for our friends over at NightFogReader.

*The guys at YoursTru.ly had a chance to sit down with Merrill Gaubus of tUnE-yArDs in Oakland before she set off on her tour. Gaubus talks about thematic elements present in w h o k i l l, her wildly successful second album. She also performs a rendition of “You Yes You,” captured here on Vimeo. (EDIT: If you are unaware of the great work video-art bloggers and SF-based YourTru.ly has already accomplished in the short time they’ve been operating, including a deal with Pitchfork to record SXSW this year, cruise over and check the website out now.)

*Selection Records is selling 300 cassettes of Nodzzz “From Bleak to Blech,” half of which the tour took on tour to Europe. A day after our interview, The Bay Bridged talks with Anthony Atlas about Innings and what growing up in Olympia means for the band’s sound today.

*Ty Segall explodes onto the national blogroll, with the new single “You Make the Sun Fry” from Goodbye Bread (album artwork above) appearing at GVB, Stereogum, Pitchfork. Read the interview with Pitchfork where he talks about how MTV killed Laguna Beach.

*Ganglians put out a trippy video for Jungle. There are aliens and other weird stuff. An early candidate for video of the year, it probably deserves a post of its own. Watch it below.

The San Francisco pysch wunderkind is slogging around Old Europe this month and next, before returning to the states. He plays 7/2 at the Independent.
